Wednesday Morning Divine Knitters Bible Study meets each Wednesday at about 10 a.m.  You don't need to be a knitter to come and enjoy this fun group.  This group selects a topic or Bible book to explore.  Beginning January 11, a DVD series on the history of the English Bible will be the focus.    We often go to lunch following the 11 a.m. (or 11:30 a.m.) Eucharist.  There is no need to sign-up and no commitment.  Come enjoy the learning, the fellowship and the food.

History of the Bible in English by Dr. James A. Walther
The ancient people whom we know as the people of Israel of the Bible were convinced that God was intimately involved in their lives and in the destiny of their nation. Inspired by holy men of God, and judged by prophets of God, this people recalled, retold, and recorded their experiences and aspirations.  The resultant writings, deemed sacred by succeeding generations became the Hebrew Scriptures, and the Hebrew Scriptures became known as the Old Testament. The people who knew Jesus were convinced that in him the word of God became flesh- Emmanuel- God with us. Those who walked with Jesus and those who experienced the risen Jesus- Peter, John, Paul and others- recalled and recorded the events in his life and the transforming experiences that produced and nurtured the Christian Church. As these writings were gathered, they became the New Testament. Trace the history of the Bible you own from original texts to modern translations.

Monday Evening Gathering meets each Monday at 5:30p.m. to explore a topic usually using either books or videos.    They have enjoyed a series of videos the history of the Jewish People as well as video series on Islam and Muhammad and one on who wrote the Bible.  Most recently they read a book the looked at the lives of 12 different disciples from different parts of the world and living in different times. Beginning January 9, they will explore books that were banned from the Bible using a DVD series and some excerpts from the books.  Following that, they will be exploring Jesus' parables on grace using the book The Parables of Grace by Robert Capon.  This is open to anyone who wants to learn.  There is no commitment and you can attend when you can.

Education for Ministry meets on Thursday evenings from September through May. This is a four-year program offered through the University of the South, an Episcopal Seminary.  All four years can meet together.  Year 1 focuses on the Old Testament or Hebrew Scriptures.  Year 2 on the New Testament.  Year 3 on Church History. Year 4 on Contemporary Living.  All four years engage in worship and in theological reflection as part of the evening's process.  There is a cost for this program and it does require outside reading.  Enrollment opens each summer.  Talk with Deacon Nancy or Priest Joanne if you are interested.  To learn more:  Education for Ministry
