Grace and Peace to You!
As many of you know, we have been talking about needing a new roof for some time. If you take a glance up at the roof, you will see shingles missing, shingles in poor shape, and we have even had a few areas of leaking throughout the years. Addressing this issue is important because deferred maintenance can radically increase the cost of repair and take away energy and funding of our life-giving mission of Feeding God’s People Body, Mind, and Spirit.
We are blessed with a Capital Needs Team that has begun to comprehensively assess our buildings and their needs. This team is comprised of parishioners who possess knowledge of building issues, and have thoroughly explored our buildings to identify needs. The goal is to be as comprehensive as possible, addressing all needs of high priority.
Here is a brief list if identified needs thus far:
· A new roof over the church and hall requiring some carpentry modifications to prevent leaks and repair other damage
· Repairing/painting or replacing wood siding on the church
· Some windows need re-caulking and minor repair
· Parking lot resurfacing and repainting of spaces
· Interior repairs including possible new wallpapering or painting of church interior
· Gutter repair to the front of the rectory
In reviewing the list of identified needs, our Capital Needs Team has identified the roof and siding as the top priority. This is important because any project of this scope will require a significant expense which we as a parish will need to discern how best to address. We simply may not be able to raise the funds to cover all of our identified needs, so we must diligently prioritize.
Our Capital Needs Team is in the process of defining our scope of work and raising questions we can pose to potential bidders. In the meantime, we will also be working to explore funding options as a cost range to our prioritized needs begins to emerge.
We are committed to keeping you informed as we move through this important endeavor. Please come back to this page for regular updates.
UPDATE ON THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN AND BUILDING PROJECTS
February 6, 2017
An ad hoc group of Vestry, Finance Team, Capital Campaign and Buildings & Grounds Ministries members met Sunday Feb. 5, 2017 to update plans for beginning work on the Capital Improvements Projects (roof, siding, gutters, soffit & fascia, window trim, parking lot repair.)
- The success of our Capital Campaign and the gifts means we do not have to short term borrow any money in order to commence work. Thank You to all who provided for this!
- Contractors have been selected and contracts are being finalized.
- The Senior Warden, Natascha Spencer, and Treasurer, David Yaeger, will serve as Financial Authority for the projects.
- The roof and related exterior projects will be done first with the parking lot to follow when the scaffolding and heavy trucks are gone. Hopefully we will celebrate the completion of their work by our Summer Solstice Auction & Party.
- The Buildings & Grounds Ministry is continuing to develop a list of building needs & improvements and will be prioritizing them and getting bids. They are asking all parish members to share suggestions for that list on an ongoing basis. Work will be done based on priority and funds available. {suggestion board is available in Healy Hall}
